Thanks from the Coaches

We want to thank everyone who helped at our 2011 BR/W Long Course Meet on May 21 & 22.  Once again, the kids did a super job in the pool and the parents did a great job on the deck.  We hope our swimmers enjoyed their “Go TCC” goodie bags and we hope the entire summer runs as smoothly as our meet did.  Thanks to our department chairs:

Sonia Wang – Olympic Trial Time in 100 Fly

TCC swimmer Sonia Wang achieved her first USA Olympic Trial time at the Memorial Day 2011 Speedo Grand Challenge held in Irvine.  Sonia’s time in the 100 meter butterfly of 1:01.98 qualified her for the 2012 USA Swimming Olympic Trials, held in Omaha, Nebraska, next June.  “WOW.  This is a huge accomplishment for Sonia.  The Olympic Trials is the highest level of competition in this country and Sonia will be there,” said a happy Coach John. This is the second TCC swimmer (Noelle Tarazona & Sonia) to qualify for the 2012 trials.

Michael Haney “Masters” CIF Competition

Michael Haney set a new “Masters” CIF record in the 200 freestyle at the 2011 CIF Southern Section Masters Championships.  Michael’s sizzling time of 1:37.70 broke the old record by 1.5 seconds.  Michael also won the 100 freestyle in a 44.84.

Michael Haney and Noelle Tarazona CIF Champions

At the Division 2 Swimming C.I.F. Championships, held in Long Beach, Noelle Tarazona, concluded her high school swimming career, by defending her 100 yard butterfly title.  Noelle won the event, for the second consecutive year, in a lifetime best of 54.54.  Noelle also placed 2nd in the 200 I.M. with a personal best of 2:01.13.
Michael Haney captured the Division 3 swim titles in both the 100 and 200 yard freestyle.  Michael’s time of 44.67 in the 100 and 1:38.00 in the 200 free were both lifetime bests.  This is the 2nd year Michael has won both the 100 and 200 freestyle (he was in Division 4 last year).
Noelle’s 100 butterfly time and Michael’s 100 and 200 freestyle times were the fastest times for all four divisions in C.I.F.

Kyle Coan Heads to USA Western Zone Camp

TCC swimmer Kyle Coan is headed to the 2011 USA Swimming Western Zone Camp on May 19 -22.
Kyle will join 55 other young swimmers at Arizona State University for discussions on meet preparation, stroke technique and race strategy.
Invitation to the camp included 28 male athletes – 15 that were selected based on the 2010 Long Course IMX scores and the remaining 13 based on the fastest long course times of the season.  “This is a great opportunity for Kyle. He had a super long course season and this camp will only help him going forward,” said Head Coach John.  Have Fun Kyle!!
