Duran sets 500 free record at Swim Festival

TCC swimmer, Samantha Duran, set a new 11-12 girls 500 free meet record at the 2011 Southern California All-Star Swim Festival, held at East L.A. Community College. Samantha’s swim of 5:18.18 smashed her personal best time by over 10 seconds.
Sam also finished 2nd in the 200 free, with a lifetime best of 2:01.86, and 3rd in the 100 free.  In addition, Samantha was a member of two winning relays, including a record-setting 200 medley relay.

Sanjar Junisbai, 10, placed 3rd in the 50 back (33.93) and had lifetime bests in both the 200 free and 100 I.M., placing 8th in both events.  Sanjar was also a member of a third place 200 free relay and a fourth place 200 medley relay.

Great job Sam and Sanjar!!

USA Swimming Selects Kyle Coan to Western Zone Select Camp

TCC Swimmer, Kyle Coan, has been selected to attend the 2011 Western Zone Select Camp, May 19-22 at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.  USA Swimming selects 56 athletes (28 boys and 28 girls) for this camp based on their performances this past year.  The camp identifies the top teenage talent across the nation and gives these exceptional athletes the opportunity to take their swimming career to the next level through an intense weekend of training, education, and fun.  Kyle is the seventh TCC swimmer to be selected for this prestigious and exciting opportunity.

Duran and Junisbai Selected to SCS Swim Festival

Congratulations to Samantha Duran, 12 and Sanjar Junisbai, 10 who have been selected to the SCS All Star Swim Festival meet!  Their selection was based on their fast swimming at the Younger JO Championship meet.  The All Star meet will be held at East LA Community College on February 26th, beginning at 2:30 pm.

Way to go Sam and Sanjar!

June Age Group Champs

2011 SPRING JO CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to TCC swimmers – Sonia Wang, Kate Santilena, Oriana Wang and Michael Haney – 2011 Spring JO Champions!!

Sonia Wang, 14,  won the 100 butterfly (54.56), the 200 butterfly (1:58.91), the 200 back (1:59.96), the 200 I.M. (2:03.22) and the 400 I.M. (4:21.11).
Sonia’s times in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 back were Senior National time standards.
Kate Santilena,
16, placed 1st in the 200 I.M. (2:04.81) and was 3rd in the 100 back (57.61) and 100 free (52.01).
Oriana Wang, 16, was champion in the 1,000 free (10:04.80) and was 2nd in the 100 free (51.27), 3rd in the 400 I.M. (4:27.99) and 500 free (4:55.63).
Oriana’s time in the 1,000 free was a Junior National time standard.
Michael Haney, 16, won the 50 free (20.69), the 100 free (45.20), and the 200 free (1:38.38).  Michael finished 9th in the 200 butterfly (1:51.59).
All of Michael’s times were Junior National time standards.

TCC finished 7th in the overall combined team standings (the women placed 5th and the men were 12th).
