Tarazona 2010 Junior Pan Pac Champion

On the first day of competition, at the 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, Noelle Tarazona swam to her lifetime best and was crowned the women’s 200 meter butterfly champion. After qualifying first in her prelim swim (2:11.81), Noelle was even tougher in finals, winning in a sizzling time of 2:10.66. Noelle finished ahead of 2nd place Groves (Australia) by over a second and a half.

Exciting Swims at Senior and Junior Nationals

The Irvine Aquatics Center hosted both the 2010 U.S.A. Senior and Junior National Swim Competitions, in early August, and both meets produced exciting swims for The Claremont Club Swim Team.

At Senior Nationals, Noelle Tarazona finished 11th overall in the women’s 200 meter butterfly (2:12.11) and 22nd in the 400 meter I.M. (4:50.81).

The following week, she swam even faster at Junior Nationals placing 3rd in the 200 butterfly (2:12.09) and 2nd in the 400 I.M. (4:47.02).

Noelle had lifetime bests in the 100 butterfly (1:01.76), placing 17th and 200 I.M. (2:19.03), finishing 12th.

Based on her swims at both meets, Noelle was selected as a member of the 2010 U.S.A. Pan Pacific Championship Team.

Michael Haney, 15, had a super swim in the 100 meter free (52.18) and placed17th overall.  He also had personal bests in the 400 free (4:02.79) and 200 butterfly (2:07.23).

Sonia Wang, 13, competed in her first long course junior meet and scored an impressive 22nd in the 400 meter I.M. (4:57.88).   She also swam the 100 and 200 butterfly, 200 free and 200 I.M.

Oriana Wang, 15, competed in the 200 and 400 meter free, 100 butterfly and 200 I.M.

Dylan Gabel concluded his age group career with best times in the 200 meter back (2:08.54) and 800 free (8:27.06).

Kate Santilena, Kyle Coan, Jason Haney, and Brandon Porter contributed on team relays.  TCC qualified both the men’s and women’s 400 and 800 meter free relays.

North American Challenge Cup Results

Congratulations to our six TCC swimmers who competed at the 2010 North American Challenge, held in Santa Clara, California.  The meet is an all-star competition between Canada, Mexico, Pacific and Pacific Northwest Swimming and Southern California.  Our swimmers contributed to the second place finish for Southern California Swimming:

Olga Ortiz, 12 – 4th in the 100 fly (1:08.41), 10th in the 100 free and 400 free.

Kate Santilena, 15- 3rd in the 200 I.M. (2:26.64) and 100 free (59.52), 6th in the 100 back, 7th in the 50 free.

Rebecca Coan, 17 – 5th in the 200 fly (2:25.33), 6th in the 100 breast and 100 fly (1:06.32).

Kyle Coan, 15 – 7th in the 400 free (4:15.09), 9th in the 100 back.

Jason Haney, 16 – 4th in the 50 free (24.96) and 200 free (1:57.07), 5th in the 100 free (54.06), 7th in the 100 back (1:02.55), 8th in the 200 back.

Brandon Porter, 16 – 9th in the 400 free (4:17.95), 7th in the 100 fly (59.51).

Tarazona Named to U.S.A. Junior Pan Pacific Championship Team

Ho’omaikai’Ana (Congratulations) Noelle Tarazona!! Noelle has been selected to the 2010 U.S.A. Junior Pan Pacific Championship Team. The Pan Pacific competition will take place August 26th to August 30th at the Kihei Aquatic Center in Maui, Hawaii. The event features the top National Youth Teams from the Pacific Rim including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The Junior Pan Pacific Championships is the top international youth competition of 2010 and provides a showcase for the top young swimmers of the future. Noelle’s selection was based on her performances at the 2010 Summer U.S.A. National and Junior National competitions held in Irvine, California. Noelle placed 2nd in the 400 meter I.M. (4:47.02) and 3rd in the 200 meter butterfly (2:12.09) at Junior Nationals (11th at Senior Nationals). Aloha (Goodbye) and Pomaika’I (Good Luck) Noelle!!
