Southern California Swimming announced the 2010 North American Challenge Cup All-Star Team and TCC placed seven swimmers on the squad. The meet will be held at the Santa Clara International Swim Center on August 5-7, 2010 in Santa Clara, California. The competition is an international competition between Southern California Swimming, Canada and Mexico. The seven TCC swimmers are:
Olga Ortiz – 11 & 12 Girls
Kate Santilena – 15 & 16 Girls
Rebecca Coan – 17 & 18 Girls
Kyle Coan – 15 & 16 Boys
Jason Haney – 15 & 16 Boys
Michael Haney – 15 & 16 Boys
Brandon Porter – 15 & 16 Boys
This is a great accomplishment for these seven youngsters and we hope they have lots of fun in Santa Clara!!
TCC swimmers Michael Haney (15), Oriana Wang (15), and Sonia Wang (13) achieved U.S.A. Swimming Junior National times at the 2010 Los Angeles Grand Prix Swim Meet held at the University of Southern California. Michael Haney placed 24th (the youngest to place in the event) in the 200 meter free with a 1:54.53 and 38th in the 400 meter free with a 4:06.95. Both swims were huge time drops for Michael and both were Junior National cuts. Michael also had a lifetime best in the 800 meter free. Oriana Wang was 30th in the 400 meter free with a 4:23.72 and sister Sonia placed 22nd in the 200 meter butterfly with a 2:17.68, with both girls achieving Junior National time standards. Sonia also had personal best times in the 200 back, 200 I.M. and 100 butterfly.
Overall, the meet was a “GRAND” success for our TCC swimmers:
Noelle Tarazona finished 13th in the 200 butterfly, 11th in the 400 I.M., 22nd in the 200 I.M. and had a lifetime best in the 100 back.
Rebecca Coan had a personal best in the 200 I.M. (2:28.34).
Kate Santilena had a lifetime best in the 200 free (2:10.58).
Tana Wilson competed in her first Grand Prix.
Kevin Coan was quick in the 50 free (25.59) and the 100 back (1:05.69).
Kyle Coan had a lifetime best in the 200 back (2:19.28).
Jason Haney swam a fast 200 free (1:58.26), 50 free (25.05) and 200 I.M. (2:14.45).
Dylan Gabel had his best timein the 400 I.M. (4:47.75).
Daniel Ghomi competed in the 100 free and 200 butterfly
Lau Ortiz dropped his time over 3 seconds in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.00).
Dylan Tarazona had lifetime bests in the 100 free (57.76) and 200 butterfly (2:15.35).
“It was a very successful meet for TCC. Our young swimmers did a great job and I am very proud of them,” stated a happy Head Coach John Ries.

Despite the overcast weather and chilly winds, The Claremont Club swimmers sizzled at the 2010 Ventura June Invitational. Five TCC swimmers were crowned June Invitational Champions:
Kate Santilena, 15 – 200 I.M.
Sonia Wang, 13 – 100 and 200 back, 100 and 200 fly, 400 free, 200 I.M.
Oriana Wang, 15 – 100, 200, 400 Free
Dylan Gabel, 17 – 1500 free
Michael Haney, 15 – 50 free, 400 free, 100 and 200 fly
Michael Haney also achieved his first Long Course Junior National Time in the 200 fly with a 2:07.59.
In the team scores, TCC finished in 3rd place behind only Mission Viejo and Canyons.

“It was a great meet. Everyone swam fast and the relays were super. I think it might be the most fun TCC has had in quite a while. Thanks to Connie Coan for keeping us posted on team scores and to all the parents who cheered on our swimmers,” said Head Coach John.

These swimmers were the highest scoring individuals at the 2010 June Age Group Invitational held in Ventura. Other top point earners included Kate Santilena, Athena Chen, Jason Haney, Brandon Porter, Dylan Tarazona, Alexis Margett, Samantha Duran, Ethan Trieu and Greg Yakovlev.

As he stepped on to the starting block, he knew he held his team’s victory in his TCC cap and goggles. As Jason Haney hit the wall, with his best time ever in the 100 breast, he secured Victory in Ventura for Team Tressa. This was the final thrill in an awesome and very fun weekend for The Claremont Club Swim Team.
